Zoe Simon

Please tell us about your current plans after high school and what inspired you to choose this path?  I’ll be attending Princeton University to study Operations Research and Financial Engineering. I wanted to attend a school that really prioritizes undergraduate education, and no college does it better than Princeton! As far as my selection of major, I want to pursue a course of study that will allow me to explore various aspects of STEM to prepare me for a career in finance, law, engineering, data science, or anything else I might choose to explore!

Please tell us a little bit about your family.  I have a younger brother named Jake (WRHS sophomore) who I am very close with. My family has always been very tight knit. We have trained martial arts, played tennis, and traveled the world together.

What are couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?  KB’s, Dangs, Powerhouse, and Java.

Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?  Muffy Davis.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?  Iceland! First off, they don’t have many corona virus cases. Second, nothing sounds better right now than exploring one of the most beautiful places on Earth (and finally getting outside).

What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?  My favorite movie is The Simpsons Movie! One can never tire of Homer. And my favorite TV show is Brooklyn 9-9. The friendship between Peralta and Boyle is adorable.

What’s the best advice you ever received from a teacher? Who was the teacher?  “Your instincts are almost always right… but if your instincts seem off, go with C.” -Heidi Husbands

What is your go to band / singer when you can’t decide what to listen to?  The Paper Kites or The Police, depends on the mood.

What one word best describes you? Why?  Powerhouse. I pursue the things that I am passionate about with everything I’ve got.

What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?  Our community’s incredibly strong connection to nature. Hiking, skiing, and exploring isn’t just a source of relaxation, for locals it seems more a source of sustenance. That was pretty amazing to see when my family first moved here.

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?  Working as a(n) engineer, lawyer, tech entrepreneur, venture capitalist, or consultant. Either way, I hope to be happy and living in a cool place.

What show are you binge-watching right now?  I am currently re-watching Silicon Valley.

What is something interesting most people don’t know about you?  I have black belts in two martial arts after 12 years of training.

Who inspires you to be better?  My Dad… and Michelle Obama.

If you could go back over your entire school career, what is one thing you would do differently?  Sounds silly, but I wouldn’t change a thing.

Who or what do you miss the most right now?  I miss the structure of normalcy. My days feel somewhat emptier now (though I am still quite busy). I miss playing Uno with friends during stats class, meeting with Next Gen Politics to talk with Mr. Hansen about the Democratic field, talking to Ms. Clark about college, riding on the bus to Twin for tennis matches, and much more.

What’s the first thing you want to do when this quarantine is over?  Play tennis! I haven’t been on the court in 6 weeks now and my racket wants desperately to be used. Close second: see my teachers and friends. School is looking pretty good right now.
